i got it working by simply giving a single "--backend sdl" flag and nothing else. --backend wayland or --expose-wayland were giving me trouble

I've tried that, it works okay for a few seconds then freezes up and won't close without force killing it

I'll try taking a look at this in a couple weeks when I'm back home with a NVIDIA laptop but it sounds similar to #1590. If you could provide the output of the coredump with coredumpctl list -> find the gamescope entry -> coredumpctl debug <gamescope crash number from list> that would be helpful. This should hopefully have debugging symbols if your distro supports debuginfod

@andersmmg Try this command using this fork SDL_VIDEODRIVER=x11 gamescope --backend sdl
It finally got it working for me
Also, make sure to use the gamescope-ba-latest branch

@KennyDevT just as a heads up, you will lose HDR when using the SDL backend but it's good you've found a workaround. Maybe also worth trying this comment's suggestion: #1643 (comment)?
