Right now, you have to hide all background regions and then individually filter out the visibility of all other nuclei a part of the assignment. Is there a way that when you hide the background regions, all regions expect the ones currently being worked on are filtered out? And when you change the region from the toggle at the top, then the previous region worked on would hide and the new region being worked on would be the only one visible.

When the user toggles off the 'show background regions' button, only the current region should be visible. Regions can then still be made visible with the 'visibility' tool.
Whenever the user changes the current region via the dropdown at the top or by using the 'select region' tool, if show background regions is currently off, only the newly selected current region should be visible.
What should happen for operations that change the current region otherwise, e.g. adding a new region?
