Changeling is a bit fucked, and we all probably know that by now. It's not fun for anyone involved and that needs to change.
What is expected from cling: Changed to a more "infiltration" focused antagonist rather than stealth.
Personal stuff I want to see: More leaning on that "Perfect predator" kind of thing. These things should be at least scary flavor wise.
General stuff that's changing: You get proper info from absorbing someone/transforming into them, hivemind and related abilities will almost certainly be removed in favor of a different system, chemicals are gone, finishing an "absorb" action gives you an Aheal and will transform you into that person, drops their stuff too. Regenerative statis checks removes.
CONCEPT 1: TTRPG changeling
How this idea came about: We're lacking something based off building a character, letting people customize something to become their own sort of thing is good.
General structure:
Changeling is given 10 evolution points and can spend them for a variety of passive abilities. Most abilities have upgrades that will increase their power per point added.
When using the revive ability, the changeling gets the choice to "Reroll" their character, resetting all their abilities to 0 and giving them back their EVOpoints
All offensive abilities removed in favor of encouraging scavenging for their own weapons.
Implementation:
Health (5 Total points). Every point applied to this ability gives you +25 to your maximum HP pool
Enviromental protection (3 points). Each point applied decreases the amount of Temp, rad, shock, and breath damage, eventually gaining full immunity. (60%-90%-Full)
Lockpicking (3 points). Each point applied decreases the amount of time it takes for you to unbuckle/uncuff yourself. 1 point shows door wires, 2 points show other wires, 3 points let the changeling interact with wires and doors without the need for any tools.
Metabolism increase (3 points). Increases your reagent metabolism by the amount taken (2-4 times) as well as waiting off stamina damage and related stuff. This however, causes you to lose hunger at an increased rate and everything else that might really, really hurt (IB for instance), now occurs an increased amount of time. Your pulse also becomes just absurd.
Unarmed style (5 points). Increases the effectiveness of your unarmed strikes. Punches deal more damage. Disarms knock people farther away, and eventually knock down on their own. Grabs are given more attributes, such as allowing you to use people as proper meatshields. Your help intent will eventually put people straight on their feet, even if they're nearing death.
Flexibility (3 points). Increases your flexibility. 1 point gives you the "hide" verb, can only be used while in a "resting" state. 2 points lets you fit in nearly anything, from a washing machine to a crate. Also gives you the bonuses of dwarfism without... the small ass sprite. 3 points lets you ventcrawl, although everyone can hear you do so. Also lets you crawl through disposals tubes, but you take a bunch of damage if something hits you while doing so.
Chamo (4 points). 1 point gives you the ability "biological clothes". These clothes aren't real, and upon attempted removal, will lash out and bite the person attempting to remove them. None of these clothes give you any boons, only slowdown if you use clothes with that trait. This will also let you mimic an ID card, although it can't be removed. Two points lets you gain partial invisibility if you stand still for a bit. 3 points will give you partial invisibility in all shadow-y environments. four points will give you full partial invisibility. After 2 points taken, any examine attempt will fail, and result in the changeling being "not really visible". 4 points and they're always treated as an unknown with their sprite being overlayed with a static effect.
Echolocation (3 points). 1 point gives the ability to use "echolocation". This ability will cause the entire section of your screen to become illuminated, and only that section. 5 second cooldown and has a "tell" that someone used it. 2 points and it now reveals the location of mobs. 3 points and it now reveals changelings in the area, along with using it on someone directly in front of you getting knocked down.
Husbandry (3 points). 1 point causes simple animals which are hostile to no longer engage without first being provoked. 2 points cause simple animals to be charmed by you, and you are now given the ability to direct a charmed animal to fight for you. 3 points and you are given the ability to give any simplemob that can have an sentience potion applied to it, a special sentience potion that can only be used once while that mob is alive, a hivemind link between them, and a nice health increase to boot. (might give some special simpleanimals "horror forms" like ian that this unlocks.)
Meld machine (10 points). 1 point and you now can interact with all machines from 1 tile away. 2 and you gain the ability to hack ID locked machines by alt-clicking on them, takes 15 seconds and will grant authorization with an audio message. 3 and you gain the ability to interact with machines up to 3 tiles away. 4 points and you gain the ability to cause any machine in range to release a "flash" effect before deactivating for some time. 5 points, 3 to 5 interaction distance. 6 points, you now heal in rooms with charging APCs and slow the charge of those APCs, in rooms with powered off APCs, you slowly take damage. 7 points and 5-7 radius. 8 points and you gain the ability to jump through cameras and camera consoles like some sort of horror movie character. 9 points and you own the whole screen. 10 points and you gain full AI functionality, although use of /any/ ability will be incredibly obvious.
Horror form (10 points). 1 point and you gain the ability to briefly go into berserk form. Going into berserk form lasts 5 seconds base, purges all stuns, has a cooldown of 30 seconds, and you are totally unable to be killed in this state, but all damage delt to you NOW will be reflected to you after you deform. While in this form you deal 40 stamina damage per hit, 20 brute per hit (base), and 60 object damage. Going into berserk form causes a scream sound to play. 2 points and you deal 25 brute and can stay in that form for 5 seconds longer. 3 points increases your damage and time by 5, gives you the ability to smash walls. 4 points and you deal 40 more object damage and get a 5,5 boost. 5 points and you now absolutely slaughter objects, you break nearly anything in one hit. 6 points and you can no longer be pushed around, you now knock down people on hit. 7 points and you can let out an people's scream once every time you enter berserk form, this kills peoples ears in and out of the game, along with giving people confusion and slowdown. 8 points and you now gain a quick dash during this form, hitting a wall or structure will cause it to break. 9 points and you get really, really good at screaming, now knocking down everyone in range. 10 points and you can now absorb people after a 7 second delay by alt-clicking on them in this form.
Antibodies (3 points). 1 point and you are no longer affected by viruses. 2 points and your blood naturally starts to attack anyone standing on top of it, slowly dealing stamina damage to them, spreads to OTHER blood in an area by touch as well, applying heat to your blood will cause it to lash out. 3 points and your blood now causes people on it to start bleeding themselves.
Anti-personel shield (3 points). 1 point gives you a shield that deflects half damage on a parry, allows the use of both hands while active. 2 points allow this shield to knock down anyone blocked by it in melee. 3 points causes this shield to deflect 75% damage.
