Visual Concept is a developpment team which made various sports games for the PS2 and many other consoles.
Visual Concept games are known in the PS2 emulation scene to never work on any PS2 emulators so far. At this point the cause is still unkown.
This issue applies to every single games of that compagny, including the very last ones 2k12 titles, except "World series baseball 2k3 and 2k4 are they were made by Blue Shift, the Marvell Nemesis game dev (and share the same issues btw).
The issue in question is a game freezing at boot, PCSX2 have a patch for nearly every single games of that compagny.
The PCSX2 interpreter mystery
On PCSX2, running the game with the EE interpreter make it goes a bit further at boot at random intervals. The EE cache emulation do not change anything.
The problem with PCSX2 patch
The patches in PCSX2 does make the game goes ingame but they are filed with random crashing (especially the latest ones such as NHL 2K10).
How Dobie handle those?
The EE JIT hard crash the emulator and the EE interpreter throw an error when booting the game
