Installation issues with MiKTeX

I installed MiKTeX, but when I run a very basic document, I keep getting the same errors.

I'm getting a Windows API error 2. It also seems like it can't find a file, though I am able to find the file at the specified location.

I've looked through the logs but I can't figure out what the issue is. My PATH variables also seem to be fine. Any help is appreciated -- thanks so much.
