In recent version of Thunderbird (e.g. 91.2.1) there is no option to choose between iCalendar and WebDav, so the instructions for Evolution apply for Thunderbird too. It seems to me that when using the full URL of a calendar a .ics file is provided and while the import works in Thunderbird the calendar is not writeable afterwards.
