Follow this discussion if you'd like to get involved in testing the Folding@home client.

Alpha and beta releases may not work 100% correctly. We need your help testing on Windows, macOS and Linux and trying out all of the different features to make sure everything still works after any recent updates.

Beta releases will be made after successful Alpha testing. After some time in Beta we make Public releases which go up on https://foldingathome.org as the recommend Folding@home client.

The published Debian binary does not link libsystemd (build machine probably missing libsystemd-dev). on_idle and keep_awake are not functional.

There are no feature changes. Just bug fixes and code reorganization. This is in preparation making the v8 client the official client around the end of May.

Please report back if you have success (or failures) with the Linux, ARM Linux, Windows or macOS versions.

v8.3.8 is running on macOS 13.6.6 intel and 14.4.1 Apple silicon.

Remotes as seen in web control are repeatedly connecting and disconnecting from node.
I don't know if the client or node is responsible.
I can see in the local log that the connection is repeatedly closing.
I emailed the debug log, which is growing rapidly.

This happens for me on Windows (or Linux Mint) as well with v8.3.8 starting at 0 UTC. To reproduce it, leave the client open viewing remotes for a while going past 0 UTC (5pm PST, the viewer doesn't need to be folding), and then the remotes blink Connected / Disconnected repeatedly (loading the page in the Firefox browser without cache doesn't fix it, closing and reopening the client doesn't seem to fix it). FAH v8.3.7 didn't blink Connected / Disconnected, but had similar issues in the log file last week. These were from the Alpha Release (not the Debug version):

Still blinking like it sets all ~11 online remotes to Disconnected and retries getting the status of the remotes list, over and over. There are no error messages in the log while this is happening:

I tried running FAH v8.3.5 beta today on Windows, and it has this behavior now, where I don't think it did in the past. Logging out of my account and back in, didn't fix Connected / Disconnected blinking remotes either. It happens with Firefox or Chrome on Windows.

On a fresh Linux Mint install, the (2) Nvidia GPUs were not detected with v8.3.8. Uninstalling v8.3.8, and using v8.3.5 beta detected the Nvidia GPUs. Note: OpenCL is not installed by default, where it would need sudo apt-get install -y ocl-icd-opencl-dev on this PC.

Going back to v8.3.8 after the GPUs were added to the settings database from v8.3.5, then the GPUs were there.
But, downloading the GPU Core for first WU didn't download after 20 minutes of nothing, so I stopped it.
The Core download should have a timeout and retry sequence for getting the cores.
Note: I was logged in now, and the remote viewing was still going bonkers with 12 remotes appearing and disconnecting every couple seconds.

After restarting FAH and trying 4-5 times for over an hour (being logged-in or out on that PC) the Core download didn't do anything. I went back to FAH v8.3.5 beta, and it downloaded the Core and is running now.

It looks like node2.foldingathome.org stopped working for viewing remotes when the certificate expired.

Websites prove their identity via certificates, which are valid for a set time period.
The certificate for node2.foldingathome.org expired on 8/23/2024.
Error code: [SEC_ERROR_EXPIRED_CERTIFICATE]

Note that you will see some strange states on the WUs tab for WUs processed by clients older than v8.4.5. v8.4.5 adds WU end state information. Older clients don't have this and WUs may end either with "Paused" or "Ended". "Paused" actually means the WU expired while paused and "Ended" means it either failed or was credited.

Something is not right. Credited WUs are showing up as 0% finished, one case 99.8% finished, and once case yellow progress bar at 100% finish.

All the WUs (but one) were completed by 8.4.5 clients. The one which was completed prior the update is at the bottom of screenshot showing correctly.

Updating to 8.4.6 in Linux Mint fails asking for polkitd-pkla, which I guess is expected.
And what in the hell?
After the installer quit, I started installing polkitd-pkla:

sudo apt install polkitd-pkla

That's a problem. @marcosfrm looks like Mint does not have polkitd-pkla.

Ok, for some unknown reason I used dpkg -i instead of apt install

Ah, that explains the issue. dpkg does not install dependencies on its own.

• Highlight group or machine with error (red) or warn (orange) on failures.

• Pause group after 5 consecutive lost WUs. v8.4.6 does not halt folding after BAD_WORK_UNIT  #305
• Ensure WU is saved to DB in case shutdown Windows kills the process. Windows 10 and 11 version "forgets" CPU WU after system restart #290
