Netid Timeout Issue

Adding the NetId as a searchable attribute results in an ldap error unless timeout is increased to 10 seconds or greater.

Increasing timeout does not work because with a larger timeout, users will see out of date information when searching and queries using the netid will take ~9 seconds to return a result.

Any suggestions for how handle queries involving netids without increasing the timeout?
