Contributing to OpenSky

There are several rules to follow when contributing to OpenSky. Please read them carefully before contributing.

Photo guidelines

If there are any photos that do not follow these guidelines it can muck up the entire dataset. Please follow these guidelines when contributing or your pull request will be rejected.

  • Photos must be in the jpg format. The make file will convert them to jpg for you.
  • Photos cannot be blurry or have motion blur.
  • At least take photos from a minimum of 75 degrees from the horizon.
  • Photos cannot have trees/branches/power lines/birds/planes/etc. in the frame.
  • Photos have to be a minimum of 1000x1000 pixels.
  • Photos cannot have any text in the frame.
  • Photos must be square with a 1:1 aspect ratio.
  • Photos must be taken at day not night or dusk/dawn. (Blue sky not yellow/orange/dark/etc.)
  • The sun cant be in the frame or any sun glare.

How to take photos using a iPhone

Warning: Check in settings if location is turned off if you do not want your location to be recorded.

  1. Open the camera app
  2. Set the camera to square mode
  3. Make sure that night mode is off and live photos are off
  4. Add to dataset
